Clean Water Rules! Understanding the EPA’s Clean Water Act Update

April 7, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Americans love clean water. We use it for drinking, recreating, and doing business. Acknowledging our reliance on clean water, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the Clean Water Act in 1972 to control pollutants entering our water. Since that time, several Supreme Court cases have muddied the waters making it harder for the EPA to prove jurisdiction over certain waters. The EPA is working to set the record straight and clarify which waters they have jurisdiction over by creating the Clean Water Rule, an update to the Clean Water Act.

Join us for an evening of learning more with John Rumpler, Senior Environmental Attorney for Environment America in Boston. Mr. Rumpler will provide more background information on the Clean Water Rule, what exactly it is, what it means, and where it stands today.

Mr. Rumpler oversees policy and strategy development for Environment America with a special focus on water issues. He has advised advocates on several successful policy initiatives—including California’s first-in-the-nation “polluter pay” law for drinking water contamination, New Jersey’s designation of 45 “Category One” waterways, and North Carolina’s recent law ordering cleanup plans for key lakes. In addition, Mr. Rumpler was the initial architect behind state PIRGs’ Great Lakes Program.

Following Mr. Rumpler’s presentation, a group of panelists with diverse interests will share their take on the rule and answer questions.

Please join us for this exciting opportunity to hear about the Clean Water rule from a national expert and diverse local panel.
