As a part of MCAD’s ongoing Greater Minnesota Arts Initiative, we’re coordinating a weekend design workshop in southwestern Minnesota called ” Activate Vacant Space.” It has two objectives: to visually brainstorm ideas for interior and exterior vacant or underutilized spaces in the Upper Minnesota River Valley, and to develop 1-2 projects for implementation this fall.
We’ll have some case studies and other resources on hand, and will integrate community participants and MCAD faculty and students to have diversity of skills and voices on each team. There are 10 to 12 of us coming out from MCAD and we are bring Dan Handeen from the U of MN too! We’d love to have you as part of the process. See example of projects by clicking here.
At the workshop, we will brainstorm a bunch of ideas, pick a couple of good ones to develop further and then allocate $4,000 towards implementing one or two of them. Implementation can be by community members or MCAD representatives, or a combination. Meals and social activities will also be a part of the weekend’s activities.
This is a project of MCAD Works with community support from CURE. Funded by the Bush Foundation and the Smaby Family Foundation.
