EVENT: Building Power for Renewing Rural Minnesota and Standing Up to Corporate Power

February 7, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Big Stone County graphic

Land Stewardship Project (LSP) and CURE Progressive Roundtable Discussion & Action Planning, Saturday, February 7, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Granite Falls MN.

LSP and CURE are jointly hosting this meeting as grassroots membership organizations committed to building power to win positive change for rural Minnesota. We want to bring our members together to discuss attacks on local democracy that corporate interests are pushing at the Capitol. How do we work together to defeat these attacks? We will hear from a panel of area citizens on their experiences fighting a controversial granite aggregate mining operation near Ortonville and two 6000+ cow dairies in Stevens County.

What is our vision for rural Minnesota and how do we achieve it? We want more farmers on the land, using farming practices that enhance water quality, provide wildlife habitat, and build our soil while producing high quality, heathy foods. How do we do this?

Special guest Rep. David Bly will be attending. Rep. Bly is a progressive rural voice at the legislature. In a recent commentary that has run in rural papers across Minnesota, Rep. Bly has laid out some of the critical issues facing family farmers and rural Minnesota. Click here to read his commentary. He will be at the meeting to share his thoughts and be a part of this conversation.

Registration with refreshments begins at 9:30am. Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP to peg@cureriver.org or call the CURE office toll free at (877) 269-2873.
