REGISTER HERE to join us at the Women’s March on January 21
CURE members have been talking and meeting about how to respond to the challenges presented to us by the new social and political realities post election 2016. Concerns are many, tensions are mounting, and many of us are looking for ways to hold true to our values, build solidarity, and take action on issues that we care deeply about.
We’re hearing that other nonprofits are hearing similar concerns from members and that leaders in those organizations are positioning themselves to both stand firm and answer member concerns. What does our community of changemakers need to do to be true to our values and support our members in the face of this unprecedented challenge? Leaders agree that we need to stand up for what we believe is right and we need to stand together – to have each other’s backs.
The Women’s March on Washington – Minnesota, will unite women, their partners and children – and allies around human rights, justice, and equality.
This day of solidarity – The Women’s March – is Saturday, January 21st in Washington DC – and in dozens of cities around the world. It’s strategically scheduled for the day after the presidential inauguration, the first full day for our new government.
CURE has long been concerned about protections and access to clean water, clean energy and protecting and restoring the natural world around us. And as a grassroots organization, CURE membership tells us that we will not win on our core issues without joining those others concerned about racism, inclusivity, social justice, equity, diversity, religious freedoms, personal safety, access to healthcare, pathways to citizenship, food systems and much more.
In today’s world, it’s all connected. We are part of an intersectional movement.
Building strength and solidarity is necessary. Growing new relationships is required. We are part of a movement to build a better world – to say NO to emerging threats. The March is a step towards unifying our communities, grounded in these new relationships, that will protect human rights and create socially just change from the grassroots level and up.
CURE is organizing two charter buses that will come up from southwestern Minnesota on Saturday, January 21st. The first bus will depart from Ortonville with a stop in Willmar and the second bus will begin in Marshall with a stop in Granite Falls. As the reservations come in we may make additional stops along the way. There are 56 seats on each bus and we will need to fill 48 of the seats per bus to make that route viable. The cost of the round-trip is $40. Buses will depart early morning and return following the march and rally which is scheduled to wrap up mid- afternoon.
We think this is a great opportunity for you to meet others with shared values and concerns about the direction our political leadership is headed, and why we must stand up and be heard. By taking advantage of our bus transportation you are letting us worry about the driving and parking – you get to take part in an event that sends a bold message to our new government. “We believe in human rights, justice, and equality. We honor those champions who have come before us. We join in solidarity, in numbers too great to ignore, to promote diversity and dignity and stand against the great unraveling.” Our message says loud and clear that women’s rights are human rights. Questions:
Do I have to be a CURE member to sign up for the bus? No, feel free to invite anyone who would like to make the trip.
Is this just for women? Nope – anyone is able and encouraged to attend. We ask that those riding the bus be at least 18 y/o or are accompanied by a responsible adult.
Will my money be refunded if we do not get enough participants to fill the bus? Yes, a full refund will be given in the event the trip or one of the buses is cancelled. (other requests for refund may be considered until Jan. 18th)
