Why have you chosen to serve on the board?
I have been working on equity issues for much of my career—and I now find myself called to bring this lens to the intersection of social and environmental justice. I am excited about CURE’s work to identify, activate, and connect rural leaders in service of our environment. I want to work to galvanize rural communities around our most precious resource. Water is life.
Tell us about your vocation.
The three biggest hats I wear are: Founder and principal of Vela Strategy, a nonprofit consulting firm specializing in program evaluation, inclusive leadership, and organizational strategy; co-owner (with my husband and master brewer, Josh) and community cultivator at Goat Ridge Brewing Company; and Co-President of Household Navigation for my two fantastic daughters, Clara and Mhina. We live in my hometown of New London (otherwise known as the best little river town ever) surrounded by family and friends.
I am at once a small-town enthusiast AND a lover of urban landscapes. If my family would have it, I would put our house on wheels and split our time between the city and the country, with frequent trips to distant lands tossed in for good measure.
